Farewell Fireweed Theater

After the last curtain closes on the final movie at the Fireweed Theater tonight, it will close its doors forever. Fireweed Theater has served Anchorage for decades. When I was a kid, it was the fancy theater. It's where I saw Rocky IV, Titanic, Saving Private Ryan and others. Seeing a movie in the giant theater at the Fireweed was an event.

Those a bit older than me can remember the drive in theater that was attached to the Fireweed. Those my age can remember the Fireweed 1, 2 and 3 theaters. Now it is time for the old to move on and the new to move in. I'm excited about the XD Digital 3D theater at the Century and the coming IMAX theater that I plan on getting a first look at on Monday. However, it is bittersweet, and with a shed of a tear that I say goodbye to another iconic landmark of my childhood. Goodbye Fireweed Theater, thank you for all the great times.
